The Municipal Assembly is the decision-making and policy-making body of the Municipality. It consists of councilors elected in direct, democratic and multi-party elections for a period of four years. The Municipal Assembly of Ribnik consists of 17 (seventeen) councilors.

The Municipal Assembly is competent to:

• adopts the Statute of the Municipality,
• makes decisions and other general acts and gives their authentic interpretation,
• adopts the Code of Conduct for Elected Representatives,
• councilors in the Municipal Assembly,
• adopts the budget and the final account of the budget,
• adopts the economic plan, development plan and investment programs,
• adopts development, spatial and urban plans and programs,
• adopts the program for arranging construction land,
• adopts implementation plans,
• makes decisions and other general acts on performing functions in the field of culture, education, sports, health, social protection, information, crafts, tourism, catering and environmental protection,
• makes decisions on utility fees and other public revenues, when authorized by law,
• makes decisions and other general acts in the field of civil protection in accordance with the Law and takes measures for the functioning of civil protection,
• makes decisions on the acquisition, management and disposal of municipal property in accordance with the Law and the Statute,
• makes decisions on determining the names of streets, squares and parts of populated areas,
• makes a decision on declaring a municipal holiday,
• makes a decision on the use of the symbols of the Municipality,
• makes a decision on the membership of the Municipality in the Association of Municipalities and Cities, on association in other associations and organizations and on concluding an agreement on inter-municipal cooperation,
• adopts a plan for the use of public areas,
• makes a decision on the proclamation of honorary citizens and regulates the rights and obligations from that decision,
• decides on awards and recognitions,
• elects and dismisses the President of the Assembly, Vice President of the Municipal Assembly, Deputy Mayor, Secretary of the Municipal Assembly and members of permanent and temporary working bodies of the Municipal Assembly and performs other elections and appointments in accordance with the Law and the Statute, forms an expert service for the Assembly and its working bodies.
• decides on the indebtedness of the Municipality,
• adopts the rules of procedure for its work,
• considers the annual report on the work of the Mayor and takes its position on it,
• decided to initiate the recall of the Mayor, in accordance with the Law, the Statute and the Rules of Procedure of the Municipal Assembly,
• establishes companies and institutions of communal and other activities for performing activities of interest to the Municipality and manages the same in
• in accordance with the Law,
• educates local communities and regulates other issues of importance for the work of local communities,
• announces a public loan and self-contribution,
• calls a referendum,
• gives an opinion on the methodology for determining the remuneration for performing entrusted tasks,
• performs other tasks determined by the Law and the Statute.
